Tooth Extraction

The goal of Vinings dentist Dr. Ronak Patel is to provide treatment and support to preserve the overall health and integrity of your teeth. We try and do everything we possibly can to ensure your teeth are healthy and intact for your whole life.

However, times do arise when the only practical solution is the extraction of a tooth.

We understand that having to lose a tooth can be upsetting to anyone, and with the added stress caused by anticipating the actual procedure, the whole situation can become overwhelming.

For some patients, uncertainty about what to expect during the procedure can be the cause of the anxiety. Our whole Heart of Vinings team will take the time necessary to answer all of your questions. We will not proceed until you feel you are totally informed about the procedure and are ready to begin.

You can count on Dr. Patel and his kindhearted team to take care of you as stress-free and gently as possible.

Reasons for Tooth Extraction

Every now and again, it’s necessary to extract a tooth due to a severe root infection or injury. However, Dr. Patel may recommend tooth extraction as part of the overall treatment plan for the following reasons:

  • Infection in the root canal that cannot be treated via traditional treatment
  • Severe decay beyond repair
  • Preparation for placement of dentures
  • Improperly positioned teeth that cause misalignment of surrounding teeth
  • Preparing kids or teens for braces
  • Wisdom teeth that are positioned in a way that will cause damage to other teeth

Dr. Patel has performed many extractions, both simple and surgically, for adults and children. His training, along with up-to-date technology, makes extractions very efficient and predictable, minimizing stress and post-operative discomfort.

We will also provide you with plenty of information to help you recover quickly and comfortably and avoid unpleasant complications. Follow these directions carefully for the best experience.

Reducing Anxiety With Sedation Dentistry

Having a tooth extracted can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be stressful. We understand that your anxiety can be overwhelming, so we offer sedation options to make sure our patients are as comfortable as possible.

Depending on your individual needs, we may recommend using nitrous oxide (laughing gas) as well as an oral sedative to keep you as comfortable as possible. Also, one of our comforting team members will be with you before, during, and after your procedure. We will provide you with all the pre-operative and post-operative instructions to make sure you are totally comfortable. Let us know what you need so that we can help you have a comfortable, stress-free procedure.
